Emerging Currents: What to Watch at Liste 2025
As the art world converges once again on Basel this June, anticipation builds around the opening of Liste Art Fair 2025, set to launch its 30th edition on June 16. Long revered as a platform for emerging voices, Liste is expected this year to deliver more than just a glimpse of what’s next—it will offer a bold reaffirmation of painting’s evolving relevance in contemporary discourse and collecting.

Under the direction of Nikola Dietrich, Liste’s firstedition with her at the helm, the fair has assembled 99 galleries from 31countries, nearly half of them first-time participants. The result is afresh, global perspective—one that, intriguingly, includes a noticeable returnto the painted surface.
1. Lovay Fine Arts (Geneva) – Suzanne Santoro

Lovay Fine Arts presents a solo exhibition of SuzanneSantoro's historical works, focusing on her "Mount of Venus" series(1971). These resin sculptures, cast from the artist's own body, arecomplemented by her "Black Mirrors" (1972–1979), offering a profoundexploration of feminist themes and self-representation
Suzanne Santoro was born in Brooklyn in 1946, graduated fromthe School of Visual Arts, New York and currently lives in Italy. Santoro’sartistic practice has been a rich journey into the realm of femalerepresentation and its hidden structures. Informed by her decades of study, shereflects on the partial erasure of women throughout Western art history. In thelate 1960s she moved from New York to Italy where she joined the feminist groupRivolta Femminile, alongside Carla Lonzi (1931-1982) and Carla Accardi(1924-2014).
In 2024 Lovay Fine Arts started a series of exhibitions in art fairs andgalleries: Paris Internationale, Paris; Lovay Fine Arts, Geneva; ConceptualFine Arts, Milano; and Liste Basel. In 2024 Santoro collaborated with the duoClaire Fontaine for a large-scale installation for the Dior Fall 2024 runwayshow at the Brooklyn Museum.
2. Afriart Gallery (Kampala) – Odur Ronald

Afriart Gallery showcases Ugandan artist Odur Ronald, whosework delves into themes of opportunity and aspiration. His piece "TheWindows of Opportunities III" (2024) exemplifies his exploration ofcontemporary African narratives
Odur Ronald (b. 1992 in Uganda) seeks to tackle his ideasfrom different vantage points that may reveal themselves as sculptures,installations, paintings and performance. His work addresses contemporaryissues of power, movement, access, belonging and personhood. Recent exhibitionsinclude the 60th Venice Biennale and Dak’art Biennale 2024.
3.A-Lounge Contemporary (Seoul) – Jiyoung Yoon

At this year’s Liste Art Fair, Yoon highlights the intricateemotions and dynamics of individuals within shifting and precarious socialstructures. Her video works explore the dualities of sacrifice andinterdependence, revealing underlying tensions and resistance. Meanwhile, hersculptures—depicting both the external (skin) and internal (organs) aspects ofthe human body—symbolize our deeply interconnected existence. By portrayingindividuals caught in moments of tension and sacrifice, her works question societalroles and relationships while seeking pathways toward resolution, capturing thefragility and resilience of human connections.
4. EhrlichSteinberg (Los Angeles) – Coleman Collins

Ehrlich Steinberg introduces Coleman Collins, an artistwhose work engages with contemporary issues through a multidisciplinaryapproach. Collins' practice encompasses various media, reflecting on culturaland societal dynamics.
Coleman Collins (b. 1986) is an LA-based artist who holds anMFA from UCLA (2018). Previous solo and group exhibitions include EhrlichSteinberg, Los Angeles; Herald St, London; Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna and BriefHistories, New York. His work explores notions of diaspora in relation totechnological methods of transmission, translation, and copying.
5. SophieTappeiner presents Angelika Loderer’s

Emerging from the histories of modernism, Angelika Loderer’swork is also framed by the conditions of the present. On the one hand, sheactivates the performative power of the informe —agitating the modernistdelineation between form and content. On the other hand, she is situated in acontemporary moment characterized by modes of living in which contingencybecomes the norm. In this double context, Loderer has developed a body of workthat incorporates contingency as a formative condition. Her work makes use ofmaterials, processes, and display mechanisms that constantly perform and exposethe object’s internal balancing act in relation to an equally contingentspectator.
Angelika Loderer (*1984) studied at the University ofApplied Arts, Vienna (AT), at Wimbledon College of Art, London (UK) as well asat Hendrix College, Arkansas (USA).

Joanna Grochowska is a contemporary artist exploring transhumanism and human enhancement technologies. Her work contributes to the dialogue about morphological freedom and the future. The conceptual basis of her art are the notions of Transgression and Singularity. The dominant theme is the transhuman and posthuman figurativeness. She received the MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw; an alumna of the Jewish Open University of Shalom Foundation, Poland; member of the Humanity+ organization.
